  • Eastern Placer Future was formed by local residents to explore whether incorporation was a real option for North Tahoe.
  • Early funding supported research into local governance, services, and fiscal feasibility.
  • An initial fiscal feasibility review was completed.
  • A statistically valid voter survey helped assess community priorities and support.

2. Petition Drive and Signature Gathering

  • The petition effort required more than 2,200 verified signatures from registered voters within the proposed town boundaries.
  • Signatures had to be gathered within the required six-month window.
  • Verified signatures authorize submission of the formal incorporation application.

3. Formal Application to Placer County LAFCO

  • The formal application includes proposed boundaries, maps, governance information, and financial projections.
  • LAFCO, the Local Agency Formation Commission, is the public agency that reviews incorporation proposals in California.

4. Comprehensive LAFCO Review

  • LAFCO commissions a Comprehensive Fiscal Analysis to study whether the proposed town can be financially viable.
  • Public hearings and community input are part of the review process.
  • LAFCO ultimately votes on whether to approve or deny the incorporation proposal moving forward.

5. Election: Voters Decide

  • If LAFCO approves the application, incorporation goes to a public vote.
  • The current goal is to reach a Spring 2027 ballot.
  • A simple majority vote in favor would approve incorporation.

If Approved

6. Transition to Local Government

  • If voters approve incorporation, the new town is formed.
  • A town council is elected.
  • Services begin transitioning from county-level control to local town governance.
  • Local priorities and policies begin taking shape through the community and its elected representatives.
