Over the past several years, many of you have followed this effort through Eastern Placer Future as residents explored an important question: Should North Tahoe consider becoming a town?

Today, that question has entered a new phase.

With the incorporation application now under review by LAFCO, the Committee to Incorporate North Tahoe has launched a new website, new communications channels, and a renewed commitment to helping residents learn about the opportunities, challenges, and responsibilities associated with townhood.

Our mission remains simple:

To provide information, encourage community dialogue, and help residents make informed decisions about our region’s future.

Why Incorporate North Tahoe?

North Tahoe has grown into a unique mountain community with town-level needs.

Every day, residents experience the realities of living in a destination community: transportation challenges, visitor impacts, housing pressures, environmental stewardship, emergency preparedness, public services, and the coordination required among many agencies and organizations.

The question before our community is not whether these challenges exist.

The question is whether North Tahoe’s governance structure should evolve to better match the scale, complexity, and future needs of our community.

That is exactly what the LAFCO review process is designed to evaluate.

Throughout the coming months, we’ll be sharing:

Updates on the LAFCO review process
Explanations of how local government works in North Tahoe
Answers to questions we’re hearing from residents
Community stories and perspectives
Opportunities to attend meetings and community conversations
Ways to volunteer and stay involved

We believe residents deserve clear information, thoughtful discussion, and the opportunity to ask hard questions before deciding whether townhood is the right next step for North Tahoe.
