More than 50 community members joined us at The Lift Workspace in Truckee last week for an evening of conversation about the incorporation effort—and we couldn’t have asked for a more engaged group. Attendees brought thoughtful questions, shared their concerns and perspectives, and helped us reach more deeply into the Truckee-adjacent communities that are an important part of this conversation about our region’s future.

We were especially fortunate to be joined by Kathleen Eagan, Truckee’s first mayor, who shared perspective from her own experience with Truckee’s incorporation. Her participation was a wonderful reminder that becoming

a town doesn’t happen overnight—it begins with people coming together, asking hard questions, learning what incorporation would mean, and deciding what kind of future they want for their community.

We’re tremendously grateful to The Lift for hosting us, to everyone who helped make the evening possible, and especially to the community members who showed up ready to participate. As our summer meetups continue, we’re excited to see these conversations spreading to more neighborhoods and more parts of the proposed town. Every new voice makes the conversation stronger.

Whether you live in Tahoe City, Olympic Valley, Northstar, the West Shore, or one of the communities closer to Truckee, these issues all raise the same practical question: When something in your community isn’t working, who can actually do something about it—and how much say do you and your neighbors have?

Questions We’re Hearing: What About Our Libraries?

Library service is one of the many public services that will be evaluated during the current Placer County’s Local Agency Formation Commission LAFCO incorporation process.  One purpose of the process is to determine which governance structure (County or Town) is the most practical and cost-effective for each service. That includes library services.

We’re building a new Community Voices page on our website featuring residents who believe our community should have the opportunity to thoughtfully explore incorporation. If you support the effort and would be willing to share a few sentences about why it matters to you, we’d love to include your voice.

As these conversations continue, we hope you’ll stay curious, keep asking questions, and share what you’re seeing and experiencing in your own part of North Tahoe. The more voices we hear from across our communities, the better we can understand what people want and need from the future.

There is still much to learn and discuss as the LAFCO review moves forward, and we’ll continue sharing what we know along the way. Ask hard questions. Stay involved. And help us make this a conversation that reflects all of our community.
